Fans of Chanel’s classic Vamp nail polish have a whole collection of reasons to get beguiled this holiday season: the cult red-black shade—worn by Madonna on the “Take a Bow” music video and Uma Thurman on “Pulp Fiction”—has spawned a makeup collection to mark its 20th year.
Also known as Chanel Rouge Noir (as any Chanel addict might know), Vamp’s holiday range is called Rouge Noir Absolument, and is comprised of two nail polishes—the original Rouge Noir in opulent blackish red and an iridescent grayish violet shade called Rose Fusion—and a top coat with metallic shimmers, Le Top Coat Lamé Rouge Noir. The Rouge Noir’s logo cap is stamped with the polish’s shade, not the usual white.
There’s also a lipstick that mirrors the nail polish’s black cherry tint and layers quite nicely with Levrés Scintillates Etincelle gloss for intensified color. That’s a temptress in a tube.
The collection has a limited quad eye shadow palette, and a Rouge Noir creamy berry-tinted shadow in a pot that’s ideal for smoky eyes when you don’t want the usual black. The effect is dramatic—more high fashion than gothic.
Long-lasting
For the first time, Chanel in the Philippines is also carrying the Rouge Double Intensité lip color line, a double-ended lip gloss with color on one end and clear gloss on the other. It is highly saturated and long-lasting. On trial, we found the Light Rose quite flattering on Filipino complexions, and varied from medium rose to nude or peachy tones on three different girls.
The brand’s Rouge Allure line of lip colors also has 10 new shades to choose from—three of velvet finish, three satin and four color-intense glosses. It has three complementary nail polishes, ranging from vibrant pink to scarlet, as well as two eye crayons in fuchsia and rosy beige.

Chanel No. 5 is also marking its 94th anniversary, and for the holidays its Eau de Parfum (which debuted in 1986) and its lighter, more powdery incarnation, Eau Premiere (2008), are being offered in limited 35-ml bottles that conveniently fit in your palm, so you can bring your No. 5 anywhere, anytime you want.
But if you want to go the opposite direction and own the ultimate indulgence—a limited edition 900-ml faceted crystal bottle of the No. 5 Parfum (1921)—it’s also available, with only 50 numbered pieces available in the world.
