To describe Cebu designer D’oro Barandino’s collection of fashion jewelry and accessories for a recent trunk show in Manila, one word comes to mind: sophistication.
Graphic and linear details are apparent in his polished array of bangles, bracelets and minaudieres.
“The collection revolves around shapes using one or two materials,” he says. “They are also devoid of embellishments.”
His designs are based on the minimal materials that he uses; the challenge is to create something beautiful out of them. “I want to show the form or purity of a design,” he says.
The simplest designs are the hardest thing to do, he says. His current collection was inspired by his surroundings. “A lot of times I see shapes that entice me to design,” he says.
A tip of a cutter blade, for instance, led him to design a slanted structured clutch. A metal component from a string guitar inspired him to produce a piece of jewelry.
He describes his clientele as women who are subtle yet confident, the types who have an eye for design. No surprise then that Miss Universe 2015 Pia Wurtzbach owns a few of his pieces.
