Your Super guide to 2016’s Make Your Own Havaianas | Lifestyle.INQ

You know Havaianas’ history is rich and deep by the way each Make Your Own Havaianas year remains fresh and different.

Customized Havaianas have taken us to space, Hawaii, and our own vast backyard, and this time, they’re taking us all the way to the land of the rising sun.

The brand returns to its original source of inspiration when it was launched in 1962—Zori, the traditional Japanese slipper. If you take a look at your pairs, the little oblong patterns on the soles are actually a nod to the Japanese inspiration (they’re rice grain patterns).

This year’s commemorative collection is called “Shibori,” after the manual dyeing technique in Japan that produces beautiful patterns on fabric.

Japanese-inspired pins include a pretty fan, a “Konnichiwa” sign, “biru” or beer, the Zori, a robot, a Japanese empress, sumo wrestler, ninja, and the two pins we are fearlessly predicting to be the hottest ones this year: a bowl of ramen and a gorgeous pink sakura (cherry blossom).

Make Your Own Havaianas, year 11, will be on April 22-24 at SM Mega Fashion Hall. It will also be available at participating retailers nationwide: Alabang Town Center (Corte delas Palmas), All Flip-Flops Bonifacio High Street, SM Mall of Asia, TriNoma, Robinsons Ermita.
