Escolta buffet toasts 40 years of Peninsula

IN 1976, the Philippines hosts the International Monetary Fund-World Bank Conference, Steve Jobs and Steve Wozniak establish Apple Computer Company, the US celebrates its bicentennial year and Peninsula Manila welcomes its first visitor.

 

The Peninsula Manila first opened doors on Sept. 14, 1976, and it has been graciously welcoming guests and patrons from all over the world since.

 

To celebrate the 40th anniversary of the hotel, Escolta, the buffet restaurant, offers  lunch and dinner buffet—from prime cuts to pastas, especially the extravagant Weekend Seafood Dinner Buffet—for only P1,976 net. Promo is running up to June 30, Monday-Saturday (except Sunday).

 

Seminar on pizza and shawarma-making

 

The Golden Treasure Skills and Development Program will conduct a daylong seminar on how to make shawarma and different kinds of pizza. This will be held at Vinzons Hall, Sunken Garden, University of the Philippines, Diliman, QC, on May 28, 10 a.m-6 p.m.

 

 

European cooking at The Maya Kitchen

 

The Maya Kitchen Culinary Elite Series presents chef Julian Koeberl from L’Aubergine on May 28, 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Koeberl will show guests what he calls “Creative European Cuisine” in a lineup that includes: Scallop Ceviche, fresh scallops cured in wasabi-citrus vinaigrette; Duo of Tomatoes, a salad of fresh tomatoes and tomato confit; Grilled Puma Iberico, premium cut of Iberian pork, grilled and served with herb salad, mashed potato and truffle sauce; Crispy Skin Amadai, fish fillet with crispy-fried scale; and Malakoff Bar, an Austrian dessert of rum, cream, lady fingers and coffee-vanilla crème anglaise.

 

A buffet lunch featuring the above dishes follows the demo.

 

Koeberl is a native of Austria. He has had extensive culinary experience working in hotels and restaurants in Europe, including stints under James Beard Award-winning chefs Alain Ducasse and Joel Robuchon. He was leading the kitchen at Suite Hotel Risco del Gato in Costa Calma, Spain, when it received the title TUI Gourmet Hotel and twice the title TUI Holly.
