THE CULTURAL Center of the Philippines and Ballet Philippines, with Philippine Ballet Theatre and Ballet Manila, will mount “Dance.MNL: The Philippine Dance Festival” on June 14-26 at the CCP, Aliw Theater and Star Theater.
Supported by the National Commission for Culture and the Arts and Manila Broadcasting Co., the festival will unite the Filipino dance community. There will be 11 performances, as well as dance workshops and conferences.
Festival directors are Paul Alexander Morales (BP), Ron Jaynario (PBT) and Lisa Macuja Elizalde (BM).
“Dance.MNL’s” performance week will kick off on June 21, 8 p.m., at the CCP Main Theater, with “The Winners Circle,” celebrating the numerous Filipino dance artists who have made their mark locally and internationally, such as Candice Adea (BalletMet), Christine Rocas (Joffrey Ballet).
The evening will also witness the world premiere of Martin Lawrance’s “Amid Shadows,” a work made especially for Rocas and BM principals.
In celebration of its 30th anniversary, PBT will hold an invitational open rehearsal billed as “PBT@30” at the CCP Main Theater on June 22, 6 p.m. The show will give a sneak peek of PBT’s coming performance season
The UP Dance Company will present “A Wanderer in the Night of the World” on June 22, 8 p.m., at Aliw.
On June 23, 6 p.m., BP will bring its highly celebrated touring repertoire “Master Pieces” back to the CCP Main Theater.
Eisa Jocson, independent artist and internationally acclaimed contemporary dancer, will present “Host” on June 23, 6 p.m., at the CCP Little Theater.
On June 24, Airdance will unveil “Body of Work,” 6 p.m., at the CCP Little Theater; and Daloy Dance Company will present “Unearthing,” 9 p.m., at the CCP Rehearsal Hall.
Ballet Manila will stage the timeless classic “Giselle” on June 25, 2 and 8 p.m., at the CCP Main Theater. The gala will feature a special tribute cast put together in honor of Felicitas “Tita” Radaic, featuring the special participation of PBT and BP dancers.
“Dance Diaspora,” a program celebrating Manila’s diverse contemporary dance companies, independent artists and overseas-based Filipino dancers, will be staged on June 25, 6 p.m., at the CCP Little Theater. The performance will open with the dance film “Where the Light Settles,” directed by AJ Orlina.
“Generation Next” will be on June 26, 2 p.m., at Aliw. To perform are select dance schools of Metro Manila, as well as the junior dancers of BP, PBT and BM.
On June 26, 8 p.m., “Dance.MNL” will close with “Ballet Filipino” at the CCP Main Theater.
Festival Pass A offers reserved seats of one’s choice of three showcases and two galas for P3,500.
Festival Pass B grants seats to all showcases and galas. Single tickets range from P200 to P1,000.
Intensive dance training workshops will be conducted June 14-26 by Macuja Elizalde, Jaynario, Candice and Carissa Adea, Osias Barroso, Nonoy Froilan, Toni Lopez Gonzalez, Regina Magbitang, Anatoly Panasyukov, Perry Sevidal, and Victor Ursabia.
