Tenant Manila’s Latte

The “third wave” coffee generation has brought a new sense of experience to caffeine lovers. It has been brewing for the past couple of years.

Specialty coffee shops have sprouted around the metro to provide high quality drinks. Filipino coffee culture has become particular with the beans’ origin, processing, roasting and brewing. It has completely developed into an art and it’s more than just the latte art on top!

Notably, Makati has a variety of specialty coffee shops all over the city. Super brings you the Makati Coffee Crawl Map.

One of the signs of a booming third wave coffee industry, is its influence on lifestyle brands. Tenant Manila serves just the right amount of coffee and fashion. With the café on the ground floor, you can enjoy coffee provided by Plain Sight. Try their latte or flat white which are crowd favorites. The latte is not too strong and really creamy as full cream milk was used. It’s a good option for casual coffee drinkers. If you’re rooting for something cold, a 12-hour Cold Brew from Type A can be your fix. Afternoon tea is ideal too, Genmaicha Green Tea and Bangalore Rose Chai are must-tries. Don’t forget to check out the surf lifestyle shop on the 2nd floor. They famously carry Saturdays NYC!

(@restockph) – 7635 Guijo St. San Antonio, Makati

Restock is the hidden gem coffee shop for millennials. Tucked in Guijo St. but you won’t miss it because of its noticeable hip exteriors. The coffee is made from single origin imported beans mostly from Ethiopia and Brazil. The menu is plain and simple—black or white? Nevertheless, they offer “progressive” coffees that are coffee with a twist. Like their most caffeinated drink, the “Stock Shake” made of dirty espresso milkshake. Accompany your coffee with a pizzadilla which is another Restock signature. This specialty coffee shop is actually under the tutelage of Magnum Opus Fine’s Jonathan Choi.

  1. Habitual Coffee

(@habitualcoffee) – 2135 Chino Roces Ave., Makati

From their humble beginnings as a pure aeropress bar to their Makati branch; Habitual Coffee, now offers a wider selection. Mainly, they want to promote Philippine coffee with beans grown in Benguet. This is provided by Kalsada Coffee who assures their product is at par with global standards. Their hero drink is the Mang Jose Washed—Mang Jose being the farmer and washed is a type of process. They offer global guest beans that would change from time to time. Also, since they have a crossfit gym next door, they offer specific caffeine dosing for performance athletes.

Bean & Yolk joins the roster of specialty coffee shops but it comes with a bunch of eggs on hand. It has an all-day brunch menu with comfort food which goes perfect with their espresso-based drinks mainly from Ethiopian and Burundian beans. A classic flat white is available; however, try their best-selling Bean & Yolk Mocha made of 65% malagos chocolate, milk chocolate, espresso and milk. Another bestseller is the Latte Gianduja which has hazelnut chocolate, espresso and milk. Or test out their newly concocted chocolate cold brew.

(@yardstickcoffee) – G/F Universal LMS Bldg, 106 Esteban St. Legazpi Village, Makati

Yardstick is a specialty coffee shop that is truly dedicated to their passion. Coffee connoisseurs come for the variety and experience. The coffee menu is divided into three parts: espresso coffee, alternative brews and featured coffees. They’ve got the usual espresso fix using imported beans. But the alternative brews are made with a certain art; from aeropress, kalita wave to steampunk. A popular drink from this category is the Espresso Pop! While the featured coffees are fun take on your usual. Power up with a highly caffeinated Cold Brew or enjoy casual drinking with an Affogato. This Christmas season, treat yourself on a special Salt & Pepper Chocomint drink. Maybe even grab a healthy cold press juice for to go.

Newly opened Fundamental Coffee, is powered by Yardstick and Bo’s Coffee. Fundamental goes back to basic focusing on coffee and experience. Baristas are like scientists concocting your drink and they’ll be happy to educate you while enjoying the scene by the bar. You must try the Old Fashioned Cappuccino with the homemade butterscotch syrup—it’s the bestseller! Plus, all their add-ons are made in-house, even the almond milk. Also, if you’re lactose intolerant, they can substitute the milk on selected drinks with almond milk. The cold brews are popular drinks to try too.
