Indulge in your princess fantasies with Happy Skin’s limited-edition Disney collection, launched in time for the holidays. The makeup line includes eight shades of lipsticks, each corresponding to a Disney princess, plus fairy tale-inspired powder and blush.
Happy Skin cofounders Rissa Mananquil-Trillo and Jacqe Yuengtian-Gutierrez said it took eight months for the collection to get a green light from Disney, which also had to approve everything from packaging to the factories, down to the music at the launch, and “each and every sparkle.”
“Disney is very professional in putting its stamp on a product,” Trillo explained.
“But we decided on all of the shades,” said Gutierrez. “We thought: If the Disney princesses had a kikay kit, what lipstick would they wear?”
Keep it fresh
At the recent Happy Skin X Disney Princess launch at Power Plant Mall, we saw these lush lippies on celebrities and bloggers who represented the Disney princesses.
The Snow White Moisturizing Matte Lippie is a wearable apple red enriched with cupuaçu butter, as seen on Heart Evangelista-Escudero. The actress did her own makeup for the event. Her holiday tip: Keep it fresh.
“Keep it natural. Go easy on the concealer; even if you have breakouts, it’s still better to see your own skin than layers of concealer and foundation,” said Escudero. “Cleanse and prime before putting on foundation, use a bit of bronzer or blush, groom your brows, and use highlighter to keep the look young.”
Actress Carla Abellana wore the Belle Moisturizing Lippie, a nude-honey shade with hydrating shea butter and collagen. She said she’s an everyday nude-and-pink girl when it comes to lip color, and lets her makeup “bake.”
“Baking is done by letting concealer and translucent powder sit on the face for a few minutes till it’s set and matte,” Abellana explained. This technique is believed to allow the heat from your face to let makeup settle nicely on the skin.
TV host Karylle Tatlonghari-Yuzon wore the Ariel Liquid Matte Lipstick, a rich wine with moisturizing cupuaçu butter, that she said works on her dry lips. Her other favorite Happy Skin product is the micellar water makeup remover.
Cinderella, the other new liquid lip shade, is a matte mauve worn by singer Ylona Garcia.
The “Frozen” matte set, worn by bloggers Vern and Verniece Enciso, includes the Elsa lippie, a moisturizing plum, and the Anna, a toasted cherry.
Completing the collection are the Aurora Moisturizing Matte Lippie, a delicate rose shade worn by blogger Tricia Gosingtian, and the Rapunzel pink-mauve matte lippie worn by video blogger Janina Vela.
Holiday makeup is all about luminous skin, said Trillo. To achieve this look, one can use the Tale As Old As Time Brightening Powder Foundation as base. Available in Soft Beige or Natural Beige, it has hydrating hyaluronic acid and brightening yoghurt extract that give natural radiance.
Finish the look with a sweep of Princess Enchanted blush for a subtle glow.
Trillo encouraged Filipino women, who are partial to nudes and browns, to try out bolder lip colors over the holidays: “Go festive. Even if you don’t have much makeup on, your lipstick can be your best accessory.”
Gutierrez added: “You can be a different princess each day, and sometimes you just need a good lipstick to get through a bad day.”
Happy Skin is at Glorietta 3, Greenbelt 5, Power Plant Mall, SM Megamall, Robinsons Magnolia, Eastwood Mall, UP Town Center, TriNoma, and soon at SM Cebu and SM Clark.
