Most city dwellers positively cannot live without their smartphones—it’s either constantly on their hands or safely tucked away in a pocket or bag when not in use. Muji thought to change the usual denim pants design by including a “sixth pocket” to house this ubiquitous symbol of 21st century lifestyle.
Introduced last January, the sixth pocket deceptively looks like a simple seam above the right back pocket. It’s positioned a little to the side and above the cheek area so people don’t end up sitting on their precious devices.
Unfortunately, the pocket is not so deep and it leaves part of the phone’s upper half sticking out. If you wear your shirts tucked out, it may not be much of a concern. Tucking in shirts leaves devices in the sixth pocket dangerously exposed.
Jeans with sixth pockets are now available for purchase from Muji. Alfred Bayle/JB
