The top 10 throwback OPM songs for the millennial heart

Give these throwback OPM songs a listen and I’m pretty sure you’ll remember some memories of your own

I have this extraordinary connection with music. Wherever I go, I always make sure to carry earphones with me because without them I’d probably end up as a soulless human being. I remember this one time I had to commute home from Manila to Cavite. I forgot to bring my earphones so what happened was, and I’m not exaggerating, I had to ask half the school if any of them had an extra pair I could borrow. Luckily, one kind soul lent me one so let’s just say my commute back home was lovely.

I try to listen to all genres of music, but I tend to stick more to EDM or boy band songs. I like the vibe of those songs. Out of all those headbanging songs, some old OPM songs manage to tickle my heart over and over again. When I say old, I mean that they were the songs that serenaded my 21-year-old self back to my teenage years.

Let me share with you my top 10 throwback OPM songs for our millennial hearts. Grab your earphones and prepare your feels.

“Bakit Pa Ba?” – Jay-R (2003)

For those people longing for their “the one that got away,” this song’s a literal dart sa heart. It’s about taking someone for granted then you realize that their love is what you’ve been looking for all this time.

“Rainbow” – South Border (2005)

Whenever I listen to this song, I always get kilig because the lyrics are so touching and loving. I mean, come on, who’s not going to fall in love with lyrics like …and I’ll you see how beautiful life is for you and me. Seriously, I scream whenever this song comes on.

“Narda” – Kamikazee (2006)

I remember having this song on repeat because I was crushing on someone back then and he wasn’t noticing me. For all those nagpapapansin or di mapansin, give this a go and maybe you’ll have the courage to approach your special someone.

“Cool Off” – Yeng Constantino (2007)

I swear, this song is good to listen to when you’re feeling lost and alone. I used to sing this song out loud in my room whenever things were going downhill. The lyrics could be about family, friends and, of course, love.

“Migraine” – Moonstar88 (2007)

Oh gosh, where do I even begin with this song. I recently found myself religiously listening to this song again for good reasons. The song is ultimately about caring for someone, getting jealous for no reason then thinking about them the whole day before reality hits you: Oo nga pala, hindi nga pala tayo.

“Sundo” – Imago (2006)

Ever longed  for your one true love? Once you’ve found them, did you ever feel like you want to give the whole world to them? This song’s all about that.

“Harana” – Parokya ni Edgar (1997)

Wow, I was only two years old when this song came out. This is so pure and just full of love. It offers nothing but the feeling of love itself and for me that is the most important thing you can give.

“Magbalik” – Callalily (2006)

Okay, here comes the feels. This song is so on point that it’s annoying. It’s about truly loving someone that you choose to wait for them, even if you know they don’t feel the same way as before.

“Ikaw Lamang” – Silent Sanctuary (2007)

I fell in love with this band because of this song. It’s all about that feeling you get when you unconsciously want someone. You start to make plans around them, you long for their presence and you look for them when they’re gone. Then you realize that you’re in love with that person.

“Kung Wala Ka” – Hale (2005)

I saved the best for last. This is one of my favorites and I’ll never get tired of hearing it. This song made me feel so sentimental during the time I got dumped. It captures that getting-over-you phase when you’re still longing for their presence in your life. If you’re hurting right now, you can do it, you can move on.

These songs are more than just my go-to favorites because they all evoke some sentimental moments from my life. Give these songs a listen and I’m pretty sure you’ll remember some memories of your own.
