Miss Philippines 2017 Rachel Peters shimmered in gold as she wore and modeled on the catwalk the lustrous sarimanok-inspired national costume at the Miss Universe pageant’s preliminary rounds in Las Vegas on Saturday night (Sunday morning, Philippine time).
Peters wowed the audience with the costume, complete with a metallic headpiece resembling a chicken’s head, a golden body suit, wings, and knee-high gladiator-type boots.
Fashion designer Val Taguba created Miss Philippine’s costume while Jojo Bragais designed her shoes.
The legendary sarimanok, depicted as a colorful bird in the Maranao folklore, symbolizes good fortune.
