The Philippine Center of International PEN (Poets and Playwrights, Essayists, Novelists) will launch Angelo R. Lacuesta’s two latest books: “Coral Cove and other stories” (University of Santo Tomas Publishing House) and “A Waiting Room Companion” (Bughaw, an imprint of Ateneo de Manila University Press) on Feb. 24, 4 p.m., at Solidaridad Bookshop, Ermita, Manila.
“Coral Cove” is Lacuesta’s fourth book of fiction. It collects “stories that take place in the clouded past, the urgent present, and the dark future—yet all seem to happen in the same timeframe and state of mind” (from book blurb).
“A Waiting Room Companion” is an intriguing collection of personal essays which are Lacuesta’s studies of the quotidian, sketches of people and places, and ruminations on life’s ironies.
Lacuesta has received numerous awards for his work: the National Book Award, Madrigal Gonzalez Best First Book Award, several Palanca prizes and Philippines Graphic Awards. He has received writing fellowships and residencies, such as the Hawthornden Writers’ Retreat at Midlothian, Scotland, and International Writing Program at the University of Iowa, US, in 2007.
Event is open to the public.
