Famous Dominican preacher Fr. Erasmo “Sonny” Ramirez, OP, returns to the preaching circuit this Holy Week when Santo Domingo Church in Quezon City holds its renowned “Siete Palabras,” the traditional Good Friday reflection on the Seven Last Words of Jesus Christ, on March 30.

Father Ramirez was one of the founding preachers of “Siete Palabras” when the Lenten tradition was inaugurated 25 years ago, said Fr. Mhandy Malijan, OP, parish priest of Santo Domingo Church.

Other preachers from the Philippine Dominican Province who will deliver the “Siete Palabras” are Fr. Rolando dela Rosa, OP, former rector of the University of Santo Tomas and chair of the Commission for Higher Education; Fr. Filemon dela Cruz, OP, superior  of the Dominican Community in Surabaya, Indonesia; Fr. Christopher Garinganao, OP; Fr. Rodel Aligan, OP; Fr. Edmund Nantes, OP, former assistant for the Asia-Pacific to the master general in the Dominican Curia in Rome; and Fr. Tereso Campillo, OP.

The Seven Last Words are “Father, forgive them, for they know not what they do”; “Today you will be with me in paradise”; “Woman, behold your son. Son, behold your mother”;  “My God, My God, why have you forsaken me?”; “I thirst”; “It is finished”; and “Father, into your hands I commend my spirit.”

The longest running Lenten program on Philippine TV, “Siete Palabras,” will be aired live, 12-3 p.m., on GMA-7 and Radio Veritas, with online streaming by the Catholic Media Network.
