Locally’s new summer flavor Wake Me Up Before You Mango-Go

Homegrown juice brand Locally unveiled three new flavors at a recent press event in sunny La Union. The warm sea breeze and the sun-drenched beach was the perfect backdrop to introduce the new variants: green mango, guava, and ripe mango.

The brand, which is known for giving “pun-ny” names to its products, named the three flavors Wake Me Up Before You Mango-go (for the ripe mango), Mangga’t To Believe In Magic (green mango) and Betcha by Guava Wow (pink guava).

The brand took media guests to San Juan, La Union, for the reveal. The town of San Juan is quickly becoming a haven for urbanites to escape the hustle and bustle of the city. The municipality boasts of an impressive beach, with waves perfect for surfing.

The shoreline is dotted with small hotels, inns and cozy B&Bs. San Juan is for surfing, enjoying the sun and lounging on a chair by the beach reading a book.

At night, the different establishments become hotspots for youthful partying and drinks with friends.

Local flavors

Apart from the new flavors, Locally also launched their #TravelWithLocally campaign. The brand seeks to encourage Filipinos to travel and explore the countryside—the better to appreciate our country’s natural beauty.

“All our products are sourced locally,” shared Gretchen King, group product manager of Locally. “All of our flavors are indigenous to the Philippines, and we really want to push local flavors to the juice market.”

King then explained how La Union mirrors their own advocacy of loving one’s own homeland and supporting the local economy.

“We source all our fruits here in the Philippines. We also educate and encourage the farmers to produce more fruit varieties.

We train them and give them more opportunities in selling their produce. In the future, we hope that we can buy most of our fruits directly from the farmers, removing the need for middlemen. This means more earnings for the farmers.”

The juice company’s nationalistic branding is a parallel to the development of La Union, with their strong identity of nationalism and sense of community.

New flavors

The three new flavors join the 10 existing flavors of Locally juices in the market.

The Wake Me Up Before You Mango-go is sweet and refreshing, good with the salty-savory fare often served at beach get-togethers. With its sweet and tangy flavor, Mangga’t To Believe In Magic joins the brand’s other uniquely flavored juices like siniguelas, mangosteen, pomelo and tamarind.

On our final night at La Union, our hosts mixed the Betcha By Guava Wow juice with soda and vodka. It was paired with barbecued chicken served at the beach. —CONTRIBUTED
