The event took place in Yahaba, Iwate prefecture, on June 16. Participants in the tournament must first shout a phrase of anger, frustration, passion or hope before flipping a small tea table and send its contents flying as far as possible, according to a report from the Yahaba town office via SoraNews24.

The tournament’s name comes from the Japanese phrase “chabudai gaeshi,” which literally means “upending the tea table.”

The process starts with each contestant sitting in front of a tea table filled with an imitation food set up. An elderly woman will sit beside them and later touch their shoulder saying they should “stop.” The contestant must then shout their phrase and flip the table afterwards.

Participants can shout anything that comes to mind, from their frustrations with women to getting a pay raise.

The contestant who can send the small plastic fish in the dish set up flying as far as possible wins the tournament.

The title of table flipping champion for 2018 went to Shinya Chiba who sent the plastic fish flying to a distance of 8.29 meters while shouting “Go Big Bulls!” Big Bulls refers to the basketball team of Iwate prefecture.  Alfred Bayle /ra
