What is one to do when faced with a traffic light that takes too long to turn green? For a 36-year-old man in Hunan, China, tearing down the said traffic light is the best thing to do to solve the dilemma.

The man, who was later identified with surname Xin, was taken into police custody for five days on Wednesday, Sept. 5, as reported by Cdyee.com via South China Morning Post last Thursday, Sept. 6.

In the footage of the surveillance camera in Jinshi at around 10 p.m. on Aug. 21, Xin was seen wearing a light blue long sleeve shirt and black pants. After waiting for two minutes for the traffic light to turn green, he had enough of the waiting and stomped towards the traffic light located in the center of the intersection.

Upon reaching the traffic light, Xin jumped a la Tarzan, demolishing the signaling device with his right arm. He then walked away like nothing happened.

The video of him destroying the traffic light apparently became viral in Chinese social media. Netizens in the Chinese microblogging site Weibo commented that Xin has anger management issues. Some expressed their fears in Xin’s manifestation of road rage.

“But to be honest, some places have red lights for too long, green lights are too short,” one Weibo user pointed out.

Another netizen quipped, “He has done the thing that people [want] to do but dare not do.”

Local police was on the lookout for Xin, the report said. After weeks of tracking him down, they were finally able to get their hands on the suspect.

While he was being detained, he revealed that he had been in a bad mood during the time of the incident, the report stated. He said that his bad mood was caused by a fight with a friend at a nearby hotel.

Aside from administrative detention, he was also fined, although the report did not mention the amount he had to pay. Kate Matriano/JB
