A woman from St. Paul, Minnesota, USA, was considered a hero by her husband and doctors after saving his life when he he suffered from a cardiac arrest. She then delivered their baby boy, after he woke up from a coma.

Ashley Goette heard her husband Andrew gasping for air in his sleep last week, KSMP Fox 9 reported on Tuesday. While waiting for an ambulance to arrive, a dispatcher walked Ashley through while she was giving Andrew CPR.

Andrew was then transported to the United Hospital. He was found to have had a cardiac arrest and was placed in an induced coma to reduce risks of brain damage.

When it happened, Ashley was 39 weeks pregnant. “I didn’t want to have to think for one second about having to do any of this without him,” she said. “I kept telling him the whole time he was asleep, or in his coma, that I was not going to have this baby until he woke up.”

Ashley also told the interview that as Andrew woke up from his coma days later, a nurse asked him, “Andrew, do you know you’re having a baby?” The nurse also asked him if he wantef to be part of his baby’s life, and he shook his head, meaning “yes.”

The day after Andrew woke up, Ashley was induced. Andrew moved from the intensive care unit so he could be beside his wife. “They brought Andrew down to labor and delivery, on his very own hospital bed and just parked it right next to mine. And he got to be there throughout all of labor and delivery,” Ashley was quoted in the report.

Another day followed, and Ashley was moved to another room where she was going to deliver her baby via cesarean section. Andrew still watched the birth via Facetime.

Their son, Lennon Andrew, was born weighing six pounds, 14 ounces. Andrew was the first person to hold their son.

Nevertheless, doctors were impressed with Ashley’s actions for saving her husband’s life. “I don’t think Andrew would be here today if it wasn’t for the actions of Ashley,” critical care physician Dr. Alex Teeters said. “Absolutely the number one thing is she recognized that there was a problem, and called for help.”

“I think we’re both a little nervous to go home because it’s going to be so much different than when we left…,” Ashley said. “He’s coming home. And that’s really the only thing that matters.” Katrina Hallare /ra
