A 69-year-old man in the Netherlands is bent on legally changing his age and adjust it 20 years younger for two reasons: to get back to work and to meet women via the dating app Tinder.
Emile Ratelband, an entrepreneur and self-help guru, filed a lawsuit against his local government for denying his request to amend his age on official documents, The Telegraph reported on Wednesday, Nov. 7.
Ratelband was born on March 11, 1949, but wants to change his birth year to 1969, the report stated. He argued that if transgender people are allowed to change their sex, he too should be allowed to change his age.
“I have done a check-up and what does it show? My biological age is 45 years,” Ratelband was quoted as saying. “When I’m 69, I am limited. If I’m 49, then I can buy a new house, drive a different car. I can take up more work.”
He added that he feels discriminated and encounters a problem with society because of his age; he also complains that he gets no answer from women in Tinder. Ratelband added that his move will be good for the government, as he will be renouncing his pension until he reaches the retirement age once again.
However, the court said it would have problems if they allow people to change their birth dates such as Ratelband’s.
“For whom did your parents care in those years? Who was that little boy back then?” the judge handling the entrepreneur’s case asked about the official status of his early years. The court is expected to release a decision in four weeks. Katrina Hallare/JB
