MANILA, Philippines — After making it to Miss Universe 2018’s Top 5, Miss Universe Vietnam H’hen Nie decided to donate her entire cash prize to community activities.

The news was announced through Miss Universe Vietnam’s official Instagram account on Wednesday with caption: “Miss H’hen Nie donates her entire 1 billion VND (more ore less $43,000) prize for community activities.”

Nie made history as the first contestant from Vietnam to reach the international pageant’s Top 5.

The caption read: “She wants to complete her promise with her village to provide scholarships for poor students and complete her social project Room to Read.”

Room to Read, a non-profit organization where Nie is an ambassador, aims to “build more libraries in rural areas, support schoolgirls around the world.”

Nie also donated her entire $10,000 cash prize to support scholarships when she won Miss Universe Vietnam.

As Nie returned to Vietnam on Wednesday, she was greeted by an overwhelming amount of supporters at the airport.

She expressed thanks in an Instagram post, saying: “Thank you for welcoming me back home. I didn’t feel tired, I didn’t cry. But I did cry because of your warm welcoming when I was back to Vietnam, those were tears of happiness.” /kga
