A 90-year-old model is being honored by Queen Elizabeth II for her contribution to the fashion industry.
Daphne Selfe, a British model whose career has spanned an impressive seven decades, has been named in the monarch’s New Year’s Honors List 2019, which recognizes substantial achievement from people across the Commonwealth. She will be awarded a British Empire Medal for her services to “Women and Fashion.”
“Daphne is delighted and rather stunned to be celebrated in this way and looks forward to sharing further news about this prestigious award during 2019,” an Instagram post from the model’s official account to her 60,000 followers read.

Famous for being the “world’s oldest professional model,” Selfe has been posing professionally since 1949, stepping in front of the camera for labels such as Dolce & Gabbana and Eyeko. She recently penned a memoir titled “The Way We Wore”, spilling the details on her time in the industry.
Selfe isn’t the only model to feature in this year’s Honors List; household name and iconic 1960s beauty Twiggy (real name: Lesley Lawson) has also been rewarded for her services to “Fashion, Arts and Charity” with a Damehood. Meanwhile, British fashion designer Christopher Bailey, who was previously the chief creative officer of the luxury label Burberry, will be named a Commander of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire for his services to fashion.
