Did the authorities just apprehend the root cause of Chicago, Illinois’ current battle with freezing temperatures? Not exactly.

At first, it would appear that the McLean Police Department arrested a woman dressed as Elsa, a character from the hit Disney movie “Frozen”, as per the police’s Facebook post last Wednesday, Jan. 30.

“ATTENTION: Due to the EXTREME COLD weather, all criminal activity and acts of stupidity and foolishness has been cancelled,” the police department’s post read. “Even Elsa has been placed under arrest with NO BOND until further notice.”

The post has been a hit with netizens, already with 2,600 likes and reactions and 5,100 shares, as of this writing.

But the police department was quick to clarify that the photos posted were not theirs, are instead from Hanahan Police Station in South Carolina, and were found online.

“We had no intention of taking credit for the pictures posted and was just trying to lighten the mood for everyone,” the police department explained. “Again, we apologize for any confusion.”

Nevertheless, netizens did not seem to mind and were still amused with the department’s joke. One netizen, Melissa Shaffer, shared that her 4-year-old daughter does not think the arrest was something to be laughed at, because the kid “wants to know why you arrested her friend.”

Meanwhile, one Rachel Jamar Thompson appealed that instead of arresting the Elsa-wannabe, they should show her love, because “love will thaw a frozen heart.”

Another commenter, Jared Michael, even corrected the police about Elsa’s proper title, saying that she is “Her Majesty, Queen Elsa of Arendelle.”

Chicago is currently experiencing a brutal cold wave, with temperatures recorded at -30 degrees Celsius. It has also been reported that five people have died due to freezing conditions. JB
