“The kids did good.”
Thus read musician and music aficionado Aimee Marcos’ Instagram post last week, captioning a picture of her in a tight hug with no less than Julian Lennon, the singer and son of the late legendary Beatle John Lennon.
It’s a lovely image of love for music trumping any bad blood. Then again, Julian was only 3, and Aimee was not even born yet, when The Beatles came to Manila in 1966. The visit didn’t have a happy ending, since, after they failed to call on Malacañang—an appointment, it turned out, the band wasn’t even aware of— the most famous band in history was famously roughed up in the airport.
Fast-forward to 2019, and Julian Lennon was in Manila upon the invitation of the Department of Tourism. Lennon is an advocate for sustainability and environmentalism. (See “Julian Lennon falls in love with the Philippines —and vice versa,” Lifestyle, April 3.)
At a dinner hosted for Lennon, Aimee Marcos was among the guests, and she and Lennon hit it off splendidly. Here’s your feel-good pic for the day.
