It’s been a rollercoaster ride for Hallyu wave fans. We’ve rounded up the newsmakers for this week.
TWICE dazzles in their concert
It was Twice’s first concert in the Philippines, but hopefully not the last. The sold-out event had the Onces (fandom name) dance the night away.
The nine-member girl group is composed of Jihyo, Nayeon, Jeongyeon, Momo, Sana, Mina, Dahyun, Chaeyoung and Tzuyu. They performed their hit songs “Cheer Up” and “Yes or Yes”. They also covered Lady Gaga’s “Born this way.” Jihyo and Momo had a special stage performing SHINee’s Taemin’s “Goodbye.”
Song-Song separation
The Ki-Kyo ship sunk last week when news outlets announced that Song Joong-ki and Song Hye-kyo are divorcing. The two have been married for 20 months. The two fell in love after shooting the drama “Descendants of the Sun.” Fans were heartbroken over the news.
Joong-ki’s agency, Blossom Entertainment, threatened to file lawsuits against people spreading fake news and rumors about the separation. The same agency also denied the involvement of actor Park Bo-gum. Bo-gum is a close friend of Joong-ki. He recently starred with Hye-kyo in the drama “Encounter.”
This week, the “Descendants of the Sun” theme park in Taebaek, South Korea revealed that they’ve had fewer visitors since the divorce announcement. The city is the filming location of the drama and the theme park features a statue commemorating the kiss of the couple in the drama. They already announced that it will be canceling its Couple Festival set this month.
Tausug in ‘Arthdal Chronicles’
Viewers of the K-drama “Arthdal Chronicles” probably thought they heard wrong when a character said the words “kaon” and “tubig” in the opening scene of Episode 9. But the words were actually Tausug and said by Filipino filmmaker and actor Nash Ang.
He revealed to Super that besides Tausug, Yakan was also used in the drama. Tausug is the language in Sulu while Yakan is used in Basilan. The actor asked help from his relatives to help translate some lines for the show. Tausug eventually became the language of the Wabi Tribe.
The Netflix Original series stars Song Joong-ki, Kim Ji-won, Kim Ok-vin and Jang Dang-gun.
