In this technology-driven world, almost anyone can showcase their works of art. Whether that’d be their newest watercolor painting or their one-of-a-kind music composition, anyone who has access to the internet can upload photos, videos, or tracks of their newest creations for the world to see.
Among the wide variety of art mediums available today, one of the more popular forms is that of digital photographs. These images oftentimes come in many kinds–such as portraits, panoramas, or even the ever-popular selfie. And thanks to the evolution of smartphones, more creative spirits can now explore their artistry using these handheld gadgets.
Last August 4 to 5, 2019, a number of artists gathered in Baguio City for “PRACTICE: A Photo Walk for the Brave Creators”, a 2-day creative retreat organized by Globe Postpaid to celebrate the new Huawei P30 Pro Amber Sunrise. During this affair, invited participants went around Baguio City’s scenic locations and exercised their creativity by joining the program’s many challenges. Throughout the duration of this trip, creative maverick and noted photographer JC Gellidon critiqued and gave tips on how these brave creators can further improve on their craft and create new masterpieces.
Here’s a rundown of the things that happened during this jam-packed two-day photo walk session:
A brand-new day for brave creators
After arriving in Baguio City and finishing their dinners, the group of participants were welcomed with opening remarks from Globe Postpaid Manager, EJ Sarsoza. This was then followed by a message from Huawei’s Trade and Marketing Supervisor, Kay Anne Reyes, who offered these brave creators details about the new, limited edition Huawei P30 Pro Amber Sunrise – the smartphone they will be using during this two-day event.
With the Huawei P30 Pro Amber Sunrise’s multiple photo and editing tools, Reyes assured participants that they will be able to freely express their individuality and creativity.
“It’s all up to you on how you can make your product (photos) stand out from the rest,” she affirmed.
JC Gellidon then took the stage to give a short talk entitled “Creativity for the Brave”. Through this short discussion, Gellidon shared his insights, experiences, and tips to becoming a brave creator. Among the many things he discussed, he also encouraged participants to take more risks with their craft.
“As a photographer, wag kayo papayag na sabihan kayo na ‘bad yung picture mo’ since there’s no such thing as a bad picture. And if you think pangit pa, there’s always a way to make it better.”
(As a photographer, don’t allow other people to call your photo a “bad photo” since there’s no such thing as a bad photo. And if it still doesn’t come out the way you wanted it to, there’s always a way to make it better.)
With this, the first day of PRACTICE: A Photo Walk for the Brave Creators concluded.
Brave Creators conquer new terrain
The second day kicked off with a trip to Oh My Gulay! visual restaurant. There, photo enthusiasts were given the task of drawing inspiration from the various artworks of Victor Oteyza and then, take images that showcase a different point-of-view.
Their second venue was Ili Likha Artist Village, a multi-level establishment that was built around overgrown trees and wooden structures. In this location, participants were challenged to choose an interesting spot and play with their take on this charming village.
The third and fourth locations are The Colors of StoBoSa and the Tam-Awan Village respectively. Through their tour of these locations, these creative individuals were able to take amazing photos of the city’s diverse art scene and cultural heritage.
Finally, the photo walk session ended with a visit to Baguio Craft Brewery, home to the country’s largest selection of draft beer using fresh local ingredients from Cordillera. There, they were given the chance to show depth and perspective using elements from the brewery.
Through these multiple tours and challenges, participants were taken out of their comfort zones and pushed to think outside of the box. The results spoke volumes of their creativity as the new brave creators of today.
Thanks to the Huawei P30 Pro’s superior Leica Triple Camera feature – that boasts of a 40 MP (Wide Angle Lens, f/1.8 aperture), 16 MP (Ultra Wide Angle Lens, f/2.2 aperture), 8 MP (Telephoto, f/2.4 aperture,OIS) and supports autofocus and AIS (HUAWEI AI Image Stabilization) – these individuals were able to showcase their creativity and prove that with the right tools, anyone can be a brave creator.
