After 17 years, Bottega Veneta has a new creative director—Daniel Lee whose first collection for the Italian brand does an innovative take on Bottega’s rich heritage of leather goods and fine craftsmanship.
In an interview with Women’s Wear Daily, Lee said he wanted to infuse a dose of modernity into the brand. He explained how he took his inspiration from the streets of Milan and how Italian women dress.
Italian star Monica Vitti, the late Italian Vogue editor Franca Sozzani and her sister Carla were also his design muses.
The outcome included functional pieces such as knitted LBDs, satin dresses, even a sleek waterproof jacket in camel.
Lee also created a selection of structured handbags with metal elements “reminiscent” of door handles in Milan. He also designed footwear in Intrecciato leather, which is synonymous to the brand.
A color palette of chocolate, camel and reddish brown are part of the mix and are Bottega’s signature colors.
A graduate of Central Saint Martins in London, Lee has lived in London, New York and Paris. He was creative director of Celine before moving to Bottega; this is his first time to be based in Milan.
Bottega Veneta, distributed by Stores Specialist Inc., is located at Greenbelt 4, Ayala Center Makati and Shangri-La Mall.
