Fans gave their verdict. Lee Dong-wook’s fan meet is probably one of the best they’ve been to.

For starters, Lee Dong-wook spent an hour with hundreds of his Filipino fans by answering questions with as much sincerity as he could muster. Second, the fan meet was accessible to everyone because it was free. The activity center of Mega Fashion Hall was filled with fans hoping to catch a glimpse of the actor.

This is the Korean actor’s second visit to Manila.

Lee Dong-wook in Manila was part of Korea Tourism Organization’s #LoveKOrea two-day Culture and Travel Fiesta which was held last week. The actor offered recommendations on places in South Korea like Gyeongju and Gwangju.

“You must eat Korean food in Korea. It is different from what you can eat here. It’s delicious,” he said according to host Sam Oh.

The fans screamed every time he smiled and waved. At one point, he teasingly berated his fans and motioned for them to be quiet for a while.

“You are not listening to my answers!” he told them. It made his fans laugh and things calmed down for a bit.

One unexpected moment during the fan meet was when he stood up and went over to a fan to get the personalized cake they offered him.

“The cake is for me?” he asked them while smiling before getting it and placing it on the table next to him. When it was time to leave, he came back for the cake he forgot on the table. He told Sam he would share it with everyone backstage.

The fans who brought the cake were admins from Lee Dong-wook Philippines—Katrina Mae Rodriguez, Norlina Destua, Therese Sta. Monica, Arianne Ramos and Bianca Pauline Papa. They prepared hand banners and calendars for fellow fans. And they had more gifts for the actor: a polka-dotted box filled with two jackets with Philippine logos, a scarf and a scrapbook made by a fan.

“We want him to remember his time here in the country,” they said.

The actor first became famous in the country for his role in “My Girl.” But it is his role as the Grim Reaper in the hit drama “Goblin” that made him a household name. He was also a strict but supportive older brother to young trainees in the show “Produce X 101.”

He revealed that he loved Philippine mangoes and he wished he could find them in Korea.
