In “Flora Vida,” which will open Feb. 26 at Galerie Joaquin Podium, physician-businessman-artist Ronnie Lim presents acrylic-on-canvas abstract paintings that limn the beauty, both physical and spiritual, of flowers. His works show dynamic composition, a variety of soft and subdued edges, and overall harmony. “Through his oeuvre, Dr. Lim explores not only the history of flowers in culture, but the many layers of meaning found in both flowers and language, and the complex relationships they have in nature and human lives,” said art writer Grace Ng.
As a young boy, Lim bested other students in art classes. He took up Biology at the College of Science of the University of Santo Tomas (UST) and finished Medicine at the UST Faculty of Medicine and Surgery. After graduating he had his pediatric residency at Cardinal Santos Medical Center in 1993.
He later went into business and in 2008, went back to his original love, painting, training under Renante “Rey” Aurelio at the Arte Pintura Gallery. Last year he had a sold-out during the 2019 ManilArt Fair. —CONTRIBUTED INQ“Flora Vida” will be on view Feb. 26-March 6, with an artist’s reception on Feb 27 at Galerie Joaquin Podium, Mandaluyong City.
