Thanks to the rise of online matchmaking sites and apps, dating has become as simple as swiping right to find the right match. But is the quest for true love and long-lasting relationships, especially in these modern times, as easy as the online world has made it out to be?
While modern dating has given hope to hopeless romantics and couples out there, it has also set unrealistic expectations about romantic relationships and what it means to truly love on this day. On this the month of love, Kwentong Jollibee returns with three new kilig-worthy episodes – “#CoupleGoals”, “Space”, and “Apart” – that brings back the true meaning of love and how it can conquer all. Here are some lessons we picked up from the latest Kwentong Jollibee episodes:
There’s more to love than the picture-perfect moments.
Nowadays, there are couples that people look up to in social media. With their swoon-worthy photos and sweet exchanges online, they have become an epitome of what a perfect relationship should be. However, according to content creator Kimpoy Feliciano, love is not always as perfect as what we see online.
He relates to the episode “#CoupleGoals” and shares, “What we see online are only the good ones that these people choose to share. What we don’t know is that these couples are actually real people that encounter challenges and problems in their life, they just choose to make their relationships work together.”
True love entails sacrifice.
Content creator Nate Punzalan shares that he also finds “#CoupleGoals” relatable, especially for him and his girlfriend-now-wife Pauline Dedel, who was one of the most followed couples online.
As newlyweds, he says that the episode reminded him of the early beginnings of their relationship. “We’re kind of an Instagram couple and a lot of people look up to us but it’s really a rollercoaster. There are times when your schedules make it hard to be with the one you love, and that’s when I realized that when you love truly, you have to sacrifice.”
When asked about how being an online couple helped their relationship, he said the best part was receiving support from the people around them. He shares, “There was a time when I announced that I would be taking a step back from social media and everyone was really understanding. I didn’t post anything for three weeks and that really gave us time to spend and helped build the foundation of our relationship together.”
Love is meeting halfway.
“Apart” tells the story of Ron and Myles whose different personalities cause a rift in their relationships. The episode teaches viewers the value of compromising and to be more understanding of the needs of their significant other in a relationship – after all, love is two people making their relationship last.
Kimpoy shares advice about relationships, “Like how our lolos and lolas said, when something is broken, you shouldn’t just give up on it. Relationships last when couples choose to fix it and find a solution together.”
The right one sees the best in you.
“Space” shows the journey of Dan as he realizes that true love is not just about looking for someone better but it is more about seeing the best in the right one. Find someone who makes you feel like you don’t have to change yourself but accepts you for who you really are.
Nate says, “True love is selflessness. In a relationship, you gotta make the right adjustments for each other and see the best in each other.
