What happens when a luxury brand redefines lipstick | Lifestyle.INQ

OCTOBER 27, 2022

I am never without lipstick. I realized that recently upon recognizing how I’m an avid collector and I have a tube of lipstick in my bag always. I thought over how lipstick is the gateway to the world of beauty. It’s also arguably one of the most exciting of makeup items.

These days, I still swipe on some lipstick even if I’m just at home. I’ve always talked about how lipstick manages to change up our look and mood instantly. A red lipstick manages to transform your entire face even if you’ve got no other makeup on. A nude-brown lipstick brings a plumping effect to your lips, playing around with the structure of your features.

Lipstick is a luxury as well. It’s especially true when a brand explores the stories we tell with our lipsticks.

This year, Hermès introduced their sixteenth metier: Beauty. Rouge Hermès is the first collection under his new venture. It’s 24 lipstick shades along with a smoothing lip balm,  a Poppy Lip Shine, a wooden lip brush, a Universal Lip Pencil, and leather lip cases.

There are many elements that make this lipstick range stand out. Every detail from the packaging to the formula and even the bullet shape shows off the artistry of Hermès.

The packaging

The lipstick cases are treated as objects. Pierre Hardy designed them and they are built to last. They are mostly made of metal with plastic only used for the interchangeable elements. The lipstick casings are also designed to be refillable. You get every lipstick in the unmistakable orange box that has defined promise, enchantment, and treasure for decades.

The formula

Even the lipstick bullet is crafted thoughtfully. The satin finish lipsticks have a rounded tip for a full application. The matte finish ones have a pointed tip for precise application.

The formula is created with white mulberry extract, micronized pigments, and a subtle scent of sandalwood, arnica, and angelica.

The shades

The shade ranges from “Rouge H” that is a full-bodied red to “Beige Kalahari”, an ochre-infused, muted shade inspired by the desert it takes its name from.

The shades are inspired by the different colors from the silk métier of Hermès. So every shade is a signature and has a rich story of craftsmanship.

Hermès Beauty is available at Rustan’s Beauty Source, Makati.
