There are certain appliances that mark your journey as an adult. I think we all have anecdotes about using a rice cooker for anything but cooking rice. You’ve laughed at one too many air fryer memes because it’s #relatable. My fellow editor took us through the adventures of living without a refrigerator in his own place.
I’ve recently reached a new milestone: Owning my first blender. I got the Oster 10-Speed Osterizer Blender. I was convinced that having something that could create shakes, juices, and smoothies from fresh ingredients helps if you’re trying to live healthily. Making shakes is a great way to consume a large amount of fruit and vegetables easily. Or so that’s what I told myself to justify giving it a spot on my already-crowded kitchen counter.
Here are my 10 confessions as a first-time blender owner.
-
- I was overwhelmed by the blender selections. The colors available are amazing! In the end, I chose the Oster 10-Speed Osterizer Blender for a very profound reason: It’s the same blender my mother owned and used to make my favorite childhood treats.
- I envisioned a life of fabulous homemade pasta sauces and pesto-making with my new blender. The next day: I order one bottle of Galileo’s Pesto Genovese via @shopitaly.ph on Instagram. Okay, fine let me add pine nuts too so I can make my own pesto.
- As a true millennial, I threw the manual away, and instead, I watched a YouTube tutorial on how to assemble it. (As a child, my mother would not let me use the blender because she knew I just wanted to use all the 10 buttons at the same time.)
- The millions of YouTube recipes encouraged me to create a strawberry milkshake. So I bought some Cordillera strawberries from @_sadiwa. I also wanted to try the Sirtfood Diet Green Juice, a green concoction that’s made of kale, rocket lettuce, parsley, celery, green apple, matcha tea, and half a lemon. Finally, I hopped on to Coop Grocer to get my veggies.
- With everything I need, I had no excuse to make life-changing blender creations that bring all boys to the yard. Now, where is that video I watched last night/early morning?
- After 10 hours, my recipe videos turned into a conspiracy video-watching binge. Is my blender listening to me? (It’s not.)
- Because I’m a kid at heart with unsupervised access to a blender, I make a chocolate shake in full-view of my fridge full of vegetables.
- I can’t help but wonder if this blender is an answer to deep-seated issues I didn’t know I had. I pushed these thoughts away as I down a glass of MyVegan Whey Protein from As Nature Intended before my daily run. (I like to run away from my problems…literally.)
- After my workout, I indulge in a milkshake rich in Kurimu Shoyu Caramel Ice Cream. This blender doesn’t judge and makes anything I want.
- My pine nuts have arrived. I think it’s time to make that pesto now.
