Actor JM de Guzman’s heart nowadays is just filled with passion for his chosen craft, acting.
He longs for maturity through his roles as he explores his newest TV character, Peterson, in his latest project “Init Sa Magdamag.” In this teleserye, he is paired with Yam Concepcion.
“Ang state siguro ng puso ko ngayon is always aiming for maturity that’s why I love acting, that’s why isa siya sa passion ko talaga because I get to confront ‘yung mga hindi ko alam na weak part ng pagkatao ko when presented a character na may ganitong conflict, na may ganitong dynamics,” he said during the online conference for the TV series last Monday, April 5.
(The state my heart is in is always aiming for maturity, that’s why I love acting, that’s why it is one of my passions, because I get to confront the weak parts of my being which I don’t know about, when presented with a character with this kind of conflict, this kind of dynamics.)
When accepting an acting assignment, de Guzman does not pass judgment on his character.
“Isa po sa mga ini-iinstill ko before I portray a role is I don’t judge the character mapa-kriminal man siya, masama man siyang tao, kung anuman ‘yung ginagawa niya because mawawala po ‘yung empathy,” he explained.
(One of the things that I instill before I portray a role is I don’t judge the character, even if he is a criminal, a bad guy or whatever he does, because the empathy will be lost.)
So as Peterson, a husband who chose a doctor, Tupe (Gerald Anderson), to be a sperm donor to him and his wife, de Guzman feels the depth of the character. The story, de Guzman also stressed, is far from mediocre.
“Talagang puso’t kaluluwa po ‘yung inilatag namin dito para the best way we can to tell the story,” he said. (We put our heart and soul in this project because it is the best way we can to tell the story.)
“Init Sa Magdamag” airs on April 17 on the iWantTFC app and website, and WeTV iFlix. It will premiere on April 19 via T5 and A2Z channel on free TV, and via digital TV box ABS-CBN TVplus. JB
