Having lost a pet dog to a car accident, actress Carla Abellana is helping promote the Please Brake For Us campaign of PAWSsion Project to prevent hit-and-run incidents involving animals.
Abellana recalled the unfortunate incident that happened to her dog in her Instagram post today, June 27.
“I have lost a precious furbaby of mine because someone didn’t step on the brakes of his vehicle fast enough. And I witnessed how it took my Wing’s life right before my very eyes,” she said.
“PLEASE BREAK for animals on the road,” she pleaded, noting that the Brake For Animals billboards in partnership with Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) are already up.
Abellana stressed that humans are “not the lone creatures in this planet” and that “everyday, millions of homeless animals struggle to find food, water and shelter.”
“So many people complain about dogs and cats scavenging for food and wandering around in the streets everyday as if it is their fault,” she said. “Other drivers and motorists deliberately speed up or hit a crossing animal or helpless puppies, kittens and already weak dogs and cats.”
Abellana feels that with congressman Ronnie Ong and the MMDA supporting the campaign, advocates like her can expect to further advance the cause for animals.
“May this inspire more government officials and agencies as well as the private sector to speak up for the voiceless as well because they too, matter,” she said. JB
