It’s been a great blessing for my family and I to be locked down in San Juan, La Union more popularly known as Surf Town.  San Juan has been labeled the Surf Capital of the North and I have been here since March 2020. With that, I have seen the evolution of this little little surf town  turn into one of the most progressive dining scenes.

There’s a lot more than what I’m featuring here today and I will probably have to do  a part two and three. So far these are the most consistent restos in terms of food quality, taste and service.

First there’s Bah Bah’s Kouzina, a straightforward Mediterranean menu. Their menu consists of beef & chicken shish, koobideh and wraps. Moussaka and hummus plus some add on’s. It’s good, authentic, fresh and something we keep going back to. It’s the first place I take visiting guests!

Then there’s the famous Kermit. They started in Siargao and have since branched out. Owner and Chef Gianni Grifoni makes his own fresh pasta that they are known for and do great pizzas which they are also known for! Daily specials of fresh caught seafood and produce are also something we look forward to. Their bartenders  Ian Libang and Ines Del Castillo (from New York) are very talented. They serve up anything you request from their fully stocked bar.

My third is a very consistent cafe aptly named Clean Beach as their advocacy is to keep the shores of La Union clean by doing daily clean up’s, recycling and re using whatever can be salvaged and encouraging their staff and visitors to do the same. They serve fun comfort food and dessert, but what I keep coming back for is their Iced Brewed Coffee with a twist of orange peel. Well balanced and super refreshing.

Places like these keep the vibe in high spirits with a hope and glimpse of better days ahead.
