MANILA, Philippines — This year’s edition of the Miss World Philippines pageant will have the highest number of “fast-track” events, or preliminary competitions whose winners automatically advance to the next stage of the beauty contest.

This practice was adopted from the international Miss World pageant’s format, which gives lucky ladies an instant spot in the global tilt’s quarterfinals.

Broadcast journalist Ganiel Krishnan, “star patroller” of ABS-CBN’s flagship nightly newscast “TV Patrol,” inches closer to her goal of taking home the Miss World Philippines crown as she qualifies for two fast-track events — the “Beauty with a Purpose” and “Multimedia Challenge.”

The Beauty with a Purpose (BWAP) program is the international Miss World pageant’s banner initiative, enjoining the delegates to spearhead projects that aim to uplift the lives of the people in their countries.

Krishan presented her two-year project “#PeopleIMet” where she shares the inspiring and heart-warming stories of the people she encounters in the course of her work, and in her numerous travels around the country.

The social media-based project also seeks to highlight the struggles of ordinary Filipinos, as well as their triumphs.

“I am humbled to share that my BWAP project made it among the Top 6 finalists,” Krishnan said in a Facebook post.

Joining her in the shortlist for the BWAP award are Lea Macapagal, Angelique Siozon, Dindi Pajares, Trisha Martinez, and Ann Palmares.

For the Multimedia Challenge, Krishnan is joined by Danica Dilla, Angelica Famorcan, Anne De Mesa, Aubrey Godin, Janella Lewis, and Rachel-Anne Valera.

Krishan also made it to the top five candidates in the “Head-to-Head” challenge, where Emmanuelle Vera and Tracy Maureen Perez emerged as the final two.

The Miss World Philippines organization had earlier conducted the Sports and Talent preliminary challenges.

Ten ladies were shortlisted in each of the two categories.

Other fast-track qualifiers will be chosen from the Beach Beauty, Top Model, National Costume, Teviant Charity, and Goodwill competitions.

The winners in the 10 fast-track events will be announced during the coronation show on July 25 at the grand ballroom of Okada Manila in Parañaque City.

Aside from the top title of Miss World Philippines, the pageant will also bestow the following crowns: Miss Supranational Philippines, Miss Eco Philippines, Reina Hispanoamericana Filipinas, Miss Tourism Philippines, Miss Environment Philippines, and Miss Eco Teen Philippines.
