Young achiever Calvin Uno T. Salavante, a Grade 6 student from La Salle Green Hills, will represent the country at the Steam Ahead global finals.
This online academic contest is part of the Steam (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics) Ahead initiative to educate and expose students from across the world about possible career choices in these fields.
Salavante qualified for the culminating event after he bagged gold at the Design Thinking Robotics and Computational Thinking Competition, an informatics and programming tilt, and silver at the Vanda International Science Competition, which highlights students’ ability to think critically and creatively in solving a range of interesting questions.
Salavante was the recent delegate to the 2021 Singapore International Math Olympiad Challenge where he earned the gold for Mind Sports Challenge, the bronze for Math Master Mind Competition, and an honorable mention for Math Olympiad Challenge.
He likewise won a silver at the Bulgaria-based 8th International Math Without Borders Global 2021 and a merit prize at the 2021 World Mathematics Invitational in Taiwan.
The Steam Ahead global finals will be hosted by the Singapore International Mastery Contests Center in collaboration with the Scholastic Trust Singapore. It will be held online on Dec. 4 and 5.
