Playing mom to newcomer Daniela Stranner, who plays a vlogger, veteran actress Agot Isidro sure does feel challenged still by “Love At First Stream” director Cathy Garcia-Molina.
“Matagal na kaming nagkatrabaho ni direk but every time, natsa-challenge pa rin ako sa kanya. Sa thirty years kong ito, challenge pa rin ako sa ‘yo direk. I love it though,” Isidro said during the Dec. 14 online press conference for their Metro Manila Film Festival movie.
(I’ve worked with direk a long time ago, but every time, I still feel challenged by her. In my thirty years (of working), I still feel challenged by you direk.)
The challenge lies in the fact that the movie is Garcia-Molina’s “love letter” to the new generation.
“Prior to the sequences na tinape namin, mother-daughter or ‘yung family, direk Cathy shared nga na this was her love letter to the generation especially to her daughter, the pandemic, the generational divide,” Isidro related.
(Prior to the sequences we taped, mother-daughter or the family, she did share to us that this film is her love letter to the generation.)
The environment in the movie is different as it tackles the new generation and the pandemic, and a mom who is busy preparing longanisa to sell.
“Pero itong may dreamer na anak, doon kumikita, so parang hindi niya ma-gets. But then eventually, all this misunderstanding opens up to ‘yun, kailangang mag-usap, kailangang intindihin ang isa’t isa tapos mangingibabaw pa rin’yung talagang pagmamahal,” she said.
(But [my character] has a dreamer daughter, and she’s earning from the business, so it looks like she doesn’t get it. But then eventually, all this misunderstanding opens up to that, there’s a need to talk, a need to understand each other and then love will prevail.)
Isidro marveled at how the story was woven around the generational divide, plus the pandemic and social problems
“It’s tied up in a neat bow. It was nice doing the scenes kasi very close to direk Cathy so kailangan kami ni Daniela medyo ‘galingan natin ‘to’ kasi love offering ito ni direk Cathy sa mga anak niya, eh. May pressure but it was very rewarding to do,” she revealed, while also acknowledging the multi-layered levels of emotion required by Garcia-Molina.
(The scenes are very close to direk Cathy so Daniela and I needed to do very well, because this is direk’s love offering to her children. There is pressure but it was very rewarding.) JB
