As Erwin, a cop who is out to solve drug-related cases in the movie “Biyak,” Albie Casiño had to smoke so he could give the demands of his role.

“When I read the script, sabi ko sa sarili ko, nagyoyosi itong character na ito so I had to smoke a cigarette for this film. Medyo nauwi ko siya kasi iyon ang habit ng cigarette, medyo nakaka-addict siya. I have not been smoking in a while na,” Casiño said during the online press conference for the film, June 8.

(When I read the script, I told myself, this character smokes, so I had to smoke a cigarette for this film. I sort of took it home because that is how it is with the habit of smoking, it is somewhat addictive. I have not been smoking in a while already.)

The actor considers it a big blessing that he landed on the role.

“I enjoyed shooting this character so much. It became my favorite. It’s a character I’ve never played that was what is exciting for me,” he said, adding that he watched Denzel Washington’s movie “Training Day” and the Hollywood actor became his peg in the “Biyak.” Also, Casiño feels that the movie is “not really just a sexy film.”

“May aspect siya na ganoon. May love scenes siya (It has that aspect; it has love scenes),” he stressed. “It’s a way more than that. To categorize it as just a sexy film, you’ll be doing a disservice to the film itself. It’s so much more than just a sexy film.”

Starring Angelica Cervantes and Quinn Carillo — who both were a part of the hit 2021 Vivamax Original Movies project, “Silab” and “Eva” — “Biyak” is directed by Joel Lamangan and will start streaming via Vivamax on July 1. JB
