Though she might be a shoo-in for beauty pageants, young actress Angelica Lao still prefers acting over competing in beauty contests.

“Acting pa rin po ang gusto ko (Acting is still what I like),” Lao said during the online conference for “Beach Bros,” last July 10. She plays Yasmin Viaje in the series.

Lao was discovered while she was doing ramp modeling.

“Nag-start po ako kasi sa runway. Doon po ako na-discover. Nag-runway din po ang mga kapatid ko and na-adopt ko na rin po iyon,” she recalled. (I started at the runway. That was where I was discovered. My siblings did runway too and I also adopted it.)

While she also matures as a young woman, Lao was asked about what differentiates girls from women.

“Ang mga girls po, tina-try nilang mag-mature pa and ‘yung mga women, totally matured na sila and kaya na nila i-handle ang sarili nila kahit na walang lalaki sa buhay nila,” she explained. (Girls are still trying to be mature while women are already totally mature and know how to handle themselves even without men in their lives.)

Before joining showbiz, Lao also already gained popularity through TikTok. She initially became a member of Squad Plus with fellow members Renshi de Guzman, Margaux Montana, Danica Ontengco, Keann Johnson and Raven Rigor. She has appeared as well in the TV series “Marry Me, Marry You.”

“Beach Bros,” an iWantTFC original series which started streaming last Saturday, July 16, also stars Chie Filomeno, Kira Balinger, Brent Manalo, Raven Rigor, Sean Tristan and Lance Carr. JB
