Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo are rivals on and off the pitch for the Louis Vuitton campaign | Lifestyle.INQ

OCTOBER 27, 2022

Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo form a temporary truce as they come together for Louis Vuitton’s latest ‘Victory is a State of Mind’ campaign.

The Messi and Ronaldo pairing is perhaps the greatest rivalry we have ever seen in sports. Ever since the Portuguese forward brought his talents over from Premier League’s Manchester United to La Liga’s Real Madrid in 2009, we have been treated to a level of competition like no other between two individuals each crowned by their respective followers as the greatest in the sport. After more than a decade of continuous competition and at the twilight of their careers, the two are now about to take part in what could be their last chance at winning the World Cup in Qatar. Between these two legends, this will be their last dance for the greatest trophy in all of football.

The calm before the storm, Messi and Ronaldo once again face off, this time over a game of chess for Louis Vuitton’s ‘Victory is a State of Mind’ campaign, photographed by Annie Leibovit.

“In addition to a long tradition of crafting trunks for the world’s most coveted sporting trophies, the Maison celebrates two of the most talented football players today,” the French luxury house brand shares on Twitter.

Louis Vuitton also shared behind-the-scenes footage of the legendary collaboration. Unfortunately for fans all over the world, the two were not actually together in the same room for the photograph. Each had their own photos taken separately and later on spliced together to form the image we see today. The two also talk about the upcoming World Cup. Messi shares “This will be my fifth World Cup. The most memorable was being acclaimed by the Argentinian people. It was a great victory for me.” Ronaldo shares the same sentiment and also talks about what the brand means for football saying “Victory travels in Louis Vuitton.” The pair also mention their favorite bags; for the Argentinian forward it’s the carry-on suitcase and for the Portuguese, it’s the Horizon bag.
