There are many love stories that began with a dating app. This is not one of them. In fact, Andrew Asencio and Camille Fiedacan found each other on the unlikeliest platform.
The two were only looking for inspiration for their dream homes when they found each other. They are both members of the Facebook page Home Buddies. The page flourished during the lockdowns and kept people busy with home improvement and do-it-yourself projects.
Asencio joined the page three years ago to get ideas on how to build a house. He just acquired a lot in Bataan near his work and was excited to begin a new chapter of his life. It was going to be his forever home shared with his now ex-girlfriend.
The house was already finished when he found out that she had cheated on him. He broke up with her.
He posted photos of his finished house on Home Buddies, the process of its building and a photo of a bitter melon. In the caption, he revealed that he was about to propose to his ex when he discovered the cheating.
“God is good. He saved me from the wrong person … This house is not hers. It is mine,” he said.
He jokingly added, “I am waiting for my dream wife who is also a member of Home Buddies.”
He earned a lot of support from other members. Some joked that the post is not a groundbreaking ceremony but a heartbreaking one.
First meeting
“Some people added me on Facebook to give me support; others were just Marites (gossips). There were those who inquired about the house—how I built it, how much it cost,” he said.
One of those people who added him was Fiedacan. Asencio said that she didn’t send him any messages at all.
But he said that he was guilty of checking out her profile. He found her pretty from the start but didn’t do anything. According to him, she added him because she was feeling lonely herself. His story resonated with her.
It would take two months before they would exchange a few words. He wanted to travel to heal himself when he saw one of her posts about My Honey’s Farm in Batangas. Asencio started a conversation with her.
They met for the first time one month later. He felt the chemistry between them and he continued to pursue her until they became a couple two months later.
He posted in Home Buddies once again to update the community. The news was received warmly and one even volunteered to become their future godparent. Asencio and Fiedacan are the first couple to come out of Home Buddies.
Asencio said that she agreed to move in with him in the future. He added that he will let her design the house however she wants.
“Thankfully, we have the same design preferences. We both like white and gray,” he said.
