The longest total lunar eclipse of the century is happening this July | Lifestyle.INQ

OCTOBER 27, 2022

The last time our Instagram feeds were flooded with photos of moons was probably some time early this year, during the super blue blood moon—a cosmic phenomenon that we here in the Philippines were lucky enough to witness.

Fast forward half a year and it looks like we are once again being blessed by the cosmos. According to Time and Date, there will be a total lunar eclipse on Jul. 28, and it will be visible here in the Philippines. It will begin at around 3:30 p.m. and end at 5:13 p.m. in local time. (They’ve also included an animation of what the eclipse should look like from Manila which you can check out here.)

This isn’t just your “average” eclipse though; at one hour and 43 minutes long, this is estimated to be the longest total lunar eclipse of the century. (The lunar eclipse last Jan. 31 lasted for approximately one hour and 16 minutes.) To add to that, NewsWeek reported that this month, Mars will be making its closest approach to Earth in the last fifteen years. Looks like we’ll be able to witness the red moon along with the red planet.

July seems to be a lucky month for stargazers and astronomers.
