Actress-mom Jodi Sta. Maria fully understood where netizens are coming from following a short Instagram video of Iwa Moto showing Thirdy jumping off the gate of their abode as he came home late recently.

“Well, naiintindihan ko naman ‘yung comments ng mga netizens sa nangyaring pa-ober da bakod ni Thirdy kasi umuwi nga ng late, walang susi. Kumbaga, kailangan niyang makapasok ng bahay,” Sta. Maria initially said when this writer queried about it during a recent event with kids of Kythe Foundation.   (Well, I do understand the comments of netizens about Thirdy’s jumping off the gate because he came home late, with no key. So, he needed to enter the house).

“I asked him lang about it, what happened there. So, nasolusyonan naman po, na bibigyan siya ng susi. Iyon naman ang importante, mabigyan siya ng susi. Kung ang tingin natin ay mayroong problema, so solusyonan natin. So, bigyan po natin ng susi para hindi na maulit kasi delikado na baka malaglag pa siya,” she continued. (So, it was addressed, that he would be given a key. It was important that he be given a key. If we think there is a problem, we should give a solution. So, let’s give him a key so that it won’t happen again because it’s dangerous as he can fall).

Now that Thirdy is about to go to college, Sta. Maria feels she cannot “relax.”

“Actually, hindi ko masasabi na relax kasi college na siya. Hindi ko rin naman masasabing masyado akong controlling kaso siyempre he is his own person. Hindi ko naman puwedeng sabihin na do this, do that. I’d say ano ako ngayon, coach sa life niya,” she said. (Actually, I can’t say I am relaxed because he’s in college now. Neither can I say that I’m controlling because he is his own person. I can’t say do this, do that. I’d say I’m sort of like his coach in his life).

The Kythe Foundation announced that Sta. Maria is their first ambassador, and she has been supporting its advocacy since 2017. Kythe  is supporting 8,000 children from different hospitals nationwide. Sta. Maria, as its ambassador, creates public awareness of the foundation’s advocacy.

Sta. Maria said that her affiliation with Kythe started when she read about a post on social media about it.

“As a mother, may anak ako and alam natin that these kids have conditions. Kung makakatulong man ako  to give them semblance of normalcy habang nag-a-undergo sila ng treatment sa hospital, bakit hindi?” she said on why she chose to help the foundation.

During the celebration, Sta. Maria joined in the merrymaking, posing for selfies with the kids, playing with them and joining the parlor games.  /ra
