Vetements Creative Director Says He 'Got Bored' of Fashion Shows | Lifestyle.INQ

OCTOBER 27, 2022

Vetements recently canceled their spring/summer ’18 show just a month before the event. The reason? Creative director Demna Gvasalia said he “got bored” with the usual fashion week system.

In an interview with Vogue, Demna thinks it’s time for Vetements to “enter a new chapter” and do its own thing. As The Cut puts it, the brand is well-known for not following the rules in the first place.

“Fashion shows are not the best tool,” Demna said. “We did the show in the sex club, the restaurant, the church. We brought forward the season, we showed men’s and women’s together. It’s become repetitive and exhausting. We will do something when there’s the time and the need for it. It will be more like a surprise.”

So what’s next for the brand? Demna hints that they’ll be able to do what they want and promises not to make oversized hoodies anymore. “We’re independent. We can do what we choose. That’s the beauty of Vetements.”

Vetements is one of many fashion labels who’ve decided to break away from the traditional fashion calendar. Other labels include Rodarte, Kenzo, Tom Ford, and Burberry.
