Hanuman meets John Wick in this highly anticipated action-thriller

Dev Patel is making his directorial debut with “Monkey Man.”

The film is produced by Jordan Peele through Monkeypaw Productions and is set for a theatrical release by Universal Pictures on April 5.

“Monkey Man” follows Kid (Patel), who makes his living fighting in an underground fight club where he is notoriously known to wear a gorilla mask—inspired by the Hindu legend of Hanuman.

Seeking revenge against the city’s oppressive elite, Kid makes his way to the upper echelons of Mumbai and unleashes “an explosive campaign of retribution to settle the score with the men who took everything from him.”

The film, according to its synopsis, is described as “an action thriller about one man’s quest for vengeance against the corrupt leaders who murdered his mother and continue to systemically victimize the poor and powerless.”

“Monkey Man” is directed by Dev Patel from his original story and screenplay with Paul Angunawela and John Collee.

The film’s cast includes Sharlto Copley, Sobhita Dhulipala, Pitobash, Vipin Sharma, Ashwini Kalsekar, Adithi Kalkunte, Sikandar Kher, and Makarand Deshpande.

“Monkey Man” was originally slated for a Netflix release before Peele saw the film and decided that it deserved a theatrical release.
