Welcome to the ‘60s and ‘70s, a time pictured by vibrant colors, hypnotic patterns and curvilinear silhouettes. Whether you’re a Gen X-er born in that era or a millennial who has a weakness for all things retro, we won’t be surprised if you want pieces in your home that bring hippie vibes.

SVEDJENÄVA | Cushion cover, multicolor, dark, 50×50 cm (20×20 “)| ₱350

Popular Swedish home furnishing brand IKEA launched a new collection of furniture pieces which first found its way to people’s homes in the late ‘60s and early ‘70s in the form of low-seated armchairs, soft rugs and home accessories. The furniture giant, known for its Scandinavian design principles of simplicity, functionality and affordability, presents its design icons with several playful touch-ups via bright colors, bold prints and whimsical lines. It’s a quirky take on the brand’s quintessential design icons – the Hoff side table, Cylinder candle holders, Jerry stool – which have all been embraced by households over time.

Today, IKEA design icons through the Nytillverkad collection comes reimagined in fresh colors and new materials though, of course, bearing IKEA’s principles of timeless design, craftsmanship, affordability and sustainability.

Designed by Karin Mobring, the Baggboda side table (P4,990) will no doubt add a good amount of cheer to any room. Simple yet stylish, the coffee table comes in two colors, light yellow and white, and promises to be anything but boring. There’s also the Järlåsa side table on casters (P2,990), which comes in red and white. A reimagined Hoff which was first created by Niels Gammelgaard, this side table on wheels is a versatile and practical addition to your home.

Save yourself from the dilemma of making guests comfy and have extra seating ready when you need it, where you need it with the Domsten stool (P1,490). The stackable chair, called Jerry when it first appeared among IKEA’s design icons in 1973, now comes in three yummy colors – orange, lilac and light green.

Is it a plant stand? Is it a side table? We say we’ll use it as both because why not? The Kulturskog (P2,990) is another all-around piece that looks as delightful in your living room or bedroom as it does out in your patio. The IKEA design icon was first introduced in 1957 as Balja and has found its way among the Nytillverkad collection today in black and light green.
