“Jane Birkin-fying your bag” is the latest way to play up your ‘fit
Hot off the heels of the “clean girl” aesthetic and “quiet luxury” trend is the bag charms trend, and it’s taking over bags—designer and otherwise—all over our feeds.
An offshoot of maximalism and the resurgence of the Y2K aesthetic, bag charms have also been referred to on TikTok as “Jane Birkin-fying your bag”—a nod to singer, actress, and style icon Jane Birkin and her own playful, chic way of styling her own Hermes Birkin.
This incredibly playful and personalized trend is the latest in the reign of “girlhood” and “girlie trends,” following and supplementing coquette core (of slapping ribbons and lace on everything) and chunky, stacking, and maximalist jewelry.

While celebrities and street style influencers are seen sporting this trend on their designer bags, it’s quickly being adapted to any type of bag, luxury or otherwise.
It’s also leaning into the growing interest in all things DIY and personalized. Such is the essence and key to achieving this bag charms trend. Elle reports, “[It’s] all about the culmination of YOU as a wearer; a curator of sorts. What does your bag—and its many charms—say about you?”
