These Filipino renditions of ‘Encanto’ tracks hit so hard - SCOUT

OCTOBER 27, 2022

About a year ago, musical fantasy-comedy animation film “Encanto” hit the theaters and immediately became the talk of the town. People of all ages tuned in as it touches on real-life family issues in a fun, fantasy setting. The film takes place in a charmed village in Colombia and follows the story of the Madrigals, a family where each member is blessed with a unique gift—except Mirabel. Despite not having magic, though, the young girl makes it her mission to protect the household after discovering the potential danger that surrounds them.

As anticipated, “Encanto” quickly gained a cult-level following and a fair number of positive reviews from critics, not only because of its extremely relevant plot, but also because of its soundtrack album. It was so iconic that it still rules most people’s playlists, while some made it their entire personality and sang the songs—at the top of their lungs, BTW—at the most random times. Streets (read: Twitter users) even claim several nightclubs play remix versions of “We Don’t Talk About Bruno.” Ugh, Bruno’s impact.

But just when we’re already planning to move on (and emotionally prepare for “The Little Mermaid”), Disney Music Asia decided to drop Filipino renditions of these official songs from “Encanto.”

“Ang Pamilya Madrigal” (“The Family Madrigal”)

Sumpang palaging sa’yo’y tutulong

Nang ang milagro ay tuloy ang sulong

Mundo at baryo, tuloy ang gulong

Sipag at katapatan, ang bubuhay sa milagro

“Nas’an Ang Milagro Ko” (“Waiting on a Miracle”)

Sa pag-iisa ko, tila kulang ako

Parang nasa pinto, naghihintay na ako’y kuminang

Pagkakataon lang, sana ay mabigyan

’Di na kayang laging tatabi lang

“Pag Nagigipit” (“Surface Pressure”)

Ate mo na lang, ’di nasasaktan ’yan

Kahit na ano ay ’di niya iiwasan

Kahit mangalay saglit o manginig… titindig

“Wag Ikuwento si Bruno” (“We Don’t Talk About Bruno”)

Tila ba’y hirap sa galing niya’t husay

Kakaba-kaba na si Abuela’t ang pamilya

Pangitaing n’ya na ’di na maintindihan

Kuha mo naman?

“Ano Pa’ng Kaya Ko?” (“What Else Can I Do?”)

Ano ang kaya ’pag sinusunod na’ng lagi sa loobin?

Sundan lagi damdamin

Ano kayang magagawa kung ang ganda’y ’di kailangan

Pero ayos lang ’yan

“Kayo” (“All of You”)

Patawarin dahil nagkulang

Higpit dala ng takot ko

Milagro ay hindi ang mahika ninyo

Milagro ay kayo, galing ko’y kayo

I have no idea what kind of magical potion they put in these versions, but all it took was one listen to make all the feels rush back. Well… I guess moving on can wait.
