Since the COVID-19 pandemic broke out, theater companies around the world have had to postpone or cancel their shows for the time being. With most people staying at home, most theater companies have taken the show from the stage to the screens as they offer live streams of well-loved theater and opera performances for everyone’s viewing pleasure. Here are some of them:

Dulaang UP

As a way of helping people cope with the crisis, the University of the Philippines’ official performing arts group has made some of their previous productions available for streaming on YouTube. Videos of productions such as “Ang Nawalang Kapatid,” “Fathers and Sons” and “The Kundiman Party” have been uploaded on their official YouTube page earlier this month.

 

BroadwayHD

BroadwayHD is a New York-based theater streaming service that carries over 200 titles of productions from Broadway and The West End, as well as concerts and theater documentaries. The website is offering a seven-day trial where viewers can access their catalogue of live theater performances; a monthly subscription is priced at $8.99

 

Shakespeare’s Globe Theatre

While their doors are closed for the time being, the theater will be providing free videos of their previous productions via their YouTube channel for a limited time period. Viewers can watch their previous production of “Hamlet” until Apr. 19, before it is replaced by “Romeo and Juliet,” “A Midsummer Night’s Dream,” “The Two Noble Kinsmen,” “The Winter’s Tale” and “The Merry Wives of Windsor” until June.

 

The Metropolitan Opera

In response to the cancellation of their live performances, the New York-based opera company is conducting weekly opera streams on their website. This week, the Metropolitan Opera will be streaming recordings of Verdi’s “Aida,” Puccini’s “La Fanciulla del West,” Wagner’s “Parsifal,” Gounod’s “Roméo et Juliette” and Donizetti’s “Don Pasquale.”

 

Feinstein’s/54 Below At Home

Although the restaurant has closed its doors for the time being, Feinstein’s/54 Below continues to be “Broadway’s Living Room” through their live streams of previous performances through their “54 Below At Home” series. This week, they will be streaming performances by Charles Busch, Lorna Luft, Tovah Feldshuh and Jonathan Larson.
