Is there a memo we missed as celebrity engagements and weddings seem to be at an all-time high this season? Chi Gibbs, eldest daughter of singer Janno Gibbs and actress Bing Loyzaga, got engaged yesterday to her boyfriend of five years Anton Cruz.

Chi tells Preen that the whole affair came as a surprise. “We’ve discussed marriage beforehand but I’m really the kind of girl that doesn’t mind getting married at all, [but] there was no expectation on my end whatsoever.”

But Anton took his time with popping the question. Chi says that he asked her parents months ago. “They were both in on it.” And as her Instagram caption would confirm, Anton’s parents came along to this trip to Australia because it was going to be unlike any other. Nevertheless, she was ready to say yes. “I knew I wanted to spend the rest of my life with him.”

Anton planned carefully where he would propose: Mistral Point, Morouba, Australia. “I was born in the area and it’s a place I always visited growing up. On his first Australian visit a couple of years ago, I brought him to this spot so he knows it’s special to me.”

Chi is clearly happy and elated by this. But she is in no rush regarding the wedding. She didn’t even ask the details of her ring. “[Anton] knows I like yellow gold and I don’t put a lot of bling so I guess that’s why he chose it.”
