Nicki Minaj let the exclamation points rain when she announced her Manila concert on Twitter: “Jully 11 @ SM Arena in Manilla, Philippines!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!”
We can’t blame her for being excited. We’re excited, too.
Globe Telecom and Research in Motion (RIM), the company behind BlackBerry, will bring the singer-songwriter to the country in July for an exclusive concert at SM Mall of Asia Arena for their subscribers. Manila will be the only Southeast Asian stop of Nicki’s Pink Friday tour.
Nicki Minaj fans who want tickets to her concert can get access by availing of the new BlackBerry Curve 9220 or BlackBerry Curve 9320 smartphones through Globe.
Cameron Vernest, RIM’s country director, said, “We’ve had a really strong relationship with Globe and with the introduction of these two new devices, we really wanted to get a partner that we had a great relationship with. We wanted to make sure we bring in these phones at a really affordable price for our consumers.”
Hastings Singh, RIM’s managing director for South Asia, said, “Our customers are important to us so together with our partner Globe, wanted to offer new My Super Plan customers who choose a BlackBerry Curve 9320 or 9220 an amazing “thank you” in the form of free tickets to see Nicki Minaj, one of the hottest music acts out there.”
When asked why they chose Nicki, Teolo Reyes, Globe Telecom’s marketing manager said, “We wanted to do something that has never been done before. Nicki Minaj has never been here. She has released hit after hit. She’s very fresh. And she fits our target market—the youth who always want to be connected.”
The Blackberry Curve 9220 comes free with Globe’s My Super Plan 499 plus P99 unlimited BlackBerry Chat subscription. Those who avail of this device will get a consumable P499 monthly for calls and texts, unlimited access to BlackBerry Messenger, two freebies and one free lower box 2, upper box or general admission concert ticket. The Blackberry Curve 9320 is free with My Super Plan BlackBerry Unli Surf Combo Plan 999. Subscribers who go for the 9320 will be entitled to unlimited surfing, P400 monthly consumable for calls and texts, one freebie and two free lower box 1, VIP or patron concert tickets.
Existing subscribers outside of their lock-up who want to join the party can choose to recontract their account subscription and get the Blackberry Curve 9220 or 9320 for free tickets while those still within lock-up can get a new postpaid line or purchase a prepaid phone kit.
Tickets will be given away on a first-come, first-served basis so if you want good seats, you need to act fast.
The 9220 and 9320 are ideal for users who like being socially connected. Cameron said, “Both models come with the latest Blackberry operating system. They also have a built-in BBM key on the side for the super hyperconnected users who want access to BBM quickly. We also have FM radio for that great music experience. We’ve got lots of applications they can download. We’ve got the latest Facebook and Twitter applications.”
Martha Sazon, head of Globe Postpaid said, “With these two new BlackBerry smartphones, users can join the conversation and share a great concert party experience with each other, only from Globe and BlackBerry.”
