The “Eraserheads: Combo On The Run” documentary is set to be more than just a behind-the-scenes look at their last reunion concert; it will feature rare footage and never-before-seen interviews about the band
Those who may have been active on Twitter around 2021 may have heard of former Eraserheads’ frontman Ely Buendia’s Q&A session, where he was asked about the possibility of a reunion concert.
He responded to this with a “half-serious joke,” saying there could be if then-vice president Leni Robredo would run for president. And though we all know what happened a year after that, the Eraserheads made true of their promise, staging a final reunion concert in December 2022.
When the band, composed of Buendia, Raimund Marasigan, Buddy Zabala, and Marcus Adoro broke up two decades before, many were left speculating on the reasons behind the split—and many articles and interviews have attempted to get into detail.
This 2025, we may be able to get the definitive answers. The documentary “Eraserheads: Combo On The Run” will be screening in cinemas nationwide from Mar. 21 to 23. The documentary film “delves deep into the heart and soul of a band that defined a generation”—it will feature an exclusive look into the “untold story of their painful breakup and the difficult but necessary challenges they had to face to get back on stage for their historic reunion in 2022, at a time when the country was grappling with political division and uncertainties.”
While the reasons behind the band’s breakup, according to the members themselves, ranged from business reasons to revelations that they “were never friends,” the documentary offers to give fans and viewers a better look at the group.
“‘Eraserheads: Combo On The Run’ offers an insightful exploration of how a group of once-disbanded punks came together and provided reprieve to an entire nation while, perhaps unknowingly, embarking on a journey of healing themselves,” a press release states.
The documentary was created by producer and filmmaker Maria Diane Ventura. “This is a comprehensive deconstruction of the band’s mythology, humanity, complex relationship, and the lasting mark they left on Filipino culture—one that transcends generations and differences,” she says in a press release.
Ventura adds that one of the documentary’s highlights is having captured the band members’ vulnerability. “Notorious for their guarded aloofness, I’m incredibly lucky and grateful to have witnessed these men allowing themselves to open up in ways people have never seen them. Their candidness and forthright honesty were a gift. It wasn’t just cathartic for them; it was transformative for me as a filmmaker and audience member. It gave me permission to reflect on my own truths, and I hope it does the same for others,” she says.
Fans will be sure to enjoy the deep and complex narrative that will be revealed in the documentary. Besides a behind-the-scenes glimpse into the “Huling El Bimbo” reunion concert in 2022, it will also feature rare footage and never-before-seen interviews about the band.
